My Aspire E 15 Touch won't recognize I'm plugging my guitar in.

I'm trying to record some stuff using Audacity so i'm using an adapter to convert my guitar cord into a 3.5mm male end. I plug it in to what looks like a "two-in-one headphone/microphone" jack because it is the only audio-in jack on this laptop. Nothing happens when I plug it in and when I go to sound and look through recording devices, nothing shows up. Any solutions?
