Hi everyone,

I bought an ACER for the first time, ASPIRE E5 773G a week ago.

It is fast enough to do little editing on AVID, use it as a Pro Tools workstation

I have issues with the screen displaying litlle black rectangles.

It came with a windows10. I have installed the latest geforce 920M driver. Didnt work.

I have then reinstall a fresh windows 10 pro. Didnt work. I still have these rectangles.

I wondered that I could disable the intel graphic card so the Nvidia takes over but the BIOS only gives me very few options to do so.

Has anyone any idea of how to fix the issues.

thanks in advance

Laptop becomes unresponsive in sleep, hibernate or shut down - Acer Aspire E15, ES-574-597Q

I've been having this problem with my laptop (windows 10) for quite a while now; everytime I leave the laptop on without using it for a certain amount of minutes, it becomes completely unresponsive. The screen turns off, but the laptop itself is still on, I can hear it running and the light stays on. The only way to use it again is if I force shut down and then turn it back on again. Especially if I put it in sleep mode or hibernate mode, this is always the problem.

This also happens when I shut off the laptop (as in go to Start > Shut down) - the screen turns off but it's still running and the battery gets drained if I leave it like that.

The power button doesn't do anything either, except when forcing it to shut down.

I know there's a way to manage the battery plan (where i can choose when to turn off the display and when it goes to sleep), and I've tried setting that up but it doesn't work, the same problem occurs.

I'm sure forcing it to shut down every time can't be a good thing for the battery, so I would really appreciate it if someone could help with this.

Acer Aspire e5-411g windows 10 shutdown problem and bios downgrade

Hi everyone. Since I upgraded my laptop from windows 8.1 to windows 10 I've been having shutdown problems
Every time I want to shutdown or even restart it, screen freezes and laptop keep working: fan is moving,
and some leds keep turn on. If I want to turn off my laptop, I have to keep press i/o button for 3 seconds.

After windows upgrade I realized that touchpad was dead. Looking into forums I found out that solution was to
update bios and select basic option instead advanced. I installed 1.16 bios version available in acer website:
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/5397;-;Aspire%20E5-411

After bios update, touchpad became operative but I got other problems. I googled looking for a solution for shutdown
problem. Common solution to that issue indicates that you must downgrade intel management engine interface from 11 or
10 version to 9 version. When I tried that, wizard installer said my system is not compatible with it so I discarded
that solution. Then I thought that updating all drivers from acer support website could be a solution. I started updating
audio driver but a few seconds installing started screen freezed. I tried installing other drivers, but screen freezed
all times.

Finally I concluded that all my problems are due bios update. Can someone guide me how to downgrade bios please.

I am not very confident with computers and  my Laptop does not start straight away.  When the power button is pressed the power light flashes on an off for a few minutes and then the computer eventually starts up.  There is a faint sound of something trying to startup. Can any one shed some light on this promblem?  My laptop has just gone on 2years old but has had little use.

Aspire E5-575G - has two display adapters?

I bougth the E5-575G from Best Buy and one of the features was the Nvidia 940MX. However, I see two display adapters in the Device Manager: Intel HD graphics and Nvidia 940MX.

I keep removing the Intel display adapter but it keeps coming back after a reboot.

How do I set the Nvidia as the default adapter? Is this possible?

I have a brand new Aspire E15 which becomes unresponsive after the process svchost gradually uses 99% of the CPU and the system heats up.  Absolutely no software has been installed on the machine and I have performed a factory reset on it but the problem persists. If killed, the process eventually comes back before building to 99% CPU again. My initial assumption was that it was Windows update hanging but sfc /scannow reports problems that it can't fix too.   I tried a fix for hanging Windows update but would gladly try another if somebody has a suggestion.

I'm chatting with Tech Support now and was just told, "The only troubleshoot we can perform is a factory reset, and you already did it."  I expected him to start a remote session and figure out what was happening, and fix it...  while we spoke.   I'm really surprised their only recourse is "factory reset".

They are sending me Recovery Media but I fail to see how it will fix anything seeing as the machine was entirely undadulterated to begin with.   He also offered to have me send it in for repair and I have a feeling I'm going to wish I took that option.

So, I have come here in hopes that the community has some thoughts on the problem.

My screen on Aspire E 14 laptop had internal crack in  screen . The laptop was not dropped or stepped on or abused . Laptop sat on a desk and was opened and closed like any other laptop. Now i am told it will not be covered under waranty as it has customer induced damages, it would cost me $257.59 US to repair it after only having the lap top for 6 Months. I payed 561.11 for this lap top and only  to be told it was my fault. Now out all this money and no laptop.   I am a very un happy customer and will never buy a acer product again.

Aspire E5-511 touchpad is hot and does not work

Hi everyone,

I installed a new SSD hard-disk Window 8 with UEFI boot yesterday after my old hard disk collapsed. I noticed that that the touchpad is not working and is insanely hot, especially above the IC on the left side of the touchpad (shown in an image below).

I checked the connection and cleaned the port of the touchpad connection into the motherboard but in vain.

Moreover, one of the USB port on the right is not working too. It seems that it has power as USB stick flashes but the laptop does not detect it. This happens although the next USB port is on the same connection to the motherboard!

Meanwhile, I have to disconnect the touchpad from the motherboard because it gets hot even if the laptop is not working.

Thanks in advance!

Khaled

Ubuntu Install fails on a brandnew Aspire ES1-732-412

$

A few weeks ago meanwhile I bought a new Acer Aspire ES1-732-412 Laptop. Came with Windows 10 preinstalled which never was a problem in the past. Very 1st thing I do is to install Ubuntu Linux on the laptop, completely cleaning Windows from the partition in that process ("erase entire disk and install Ubuntu"). With previous laptops that always was a simple and straightforward action, took about 1/2h and I had an intelligent, usable OS. This time however it's a freaking tragedy.

UEFI Boot mode, not changeable from the BIOS, secure boot is disabled. Starting up from the Linux DVD works, the 'install Ubuntu' line can be selected and the installation comences. Language, location, keyboard setup, erase partition choice, all that could still be selected as usual. Did so. Installation proceeded. But after about 20 minutes the screen said <failed to install boot loader, fatal error> - and then froze. I tried the entire process again, now it has become super slow and freezes right after <Install Ubuntu.>

I have a brand new laptop here which I cannot use. I need it for work and time is running. Just wanted to install the OS of my choice. And I very much hope that it's not an issue like the highly interesting one described here.

Because that would mean to me that also Acer is trying to put its customers under tutelage now.
Why do I dare to write that:
I have bought this laptop with my state of information being that I can install any OS of my choice on it. Obviously renouncing at warranty services then which only are provided for the Windows install version. So far, so fair enough. But *nowhere* have I read or heard any information about Windows being enabled now to prevent the installation of other OS on a new ACER laptop ***by the hardware producer's own settings*** - in other words, with the active help of hardware producers and vendors. Had I known that beforehand I certainly would not have bought this laptop.

Very welcome any enlightenment on this.  Still hoping it is a resolvable technical issue which I just haven't figured out yet.
